Hello
07/14/08 9:02 AM

I just wanted to say hello, and maybe talk to some other curious people.

I remember while researching a thesis paper in college; I came across an article which said that each neuron in the human brain contained a micrscopic version of a quantum switch (I believe that was how they put it, it's been a lot of years since then.). They hypothesized that our perception of reality was determined by how many of these 'switches' were in what direction.

I've read newer reasearch articles which suggest that some strange phenomena of quantum mechanics could indeed explain psychic or other paranormal abilities.

Hello Moloch,

I haven't been involved with quantum mechanics since college, but let me see if I can hazard some semblance of a response to your inquiry. Quantum mechanics involves matter/energy at the smallest levels (wave-particle duality, uncertainty principle regarding electron velocity/position etc), much smaller of a scale than something like a neuron. Also, if memory serves, a neuron doesn't transmit a signal like a switch, its more of an analog build up of potential until it cross a certain action threshold. Therefore, there doesn't seem to be a clear analogy hear between neurons and quantum mechanics.
I do believe, however, that quantum mechanics could very well have something to do with paranormal abilities (if they exist), as there could be some subtle quantum mechanical phenomena involving the nature of "uncertainty" (and corresponding human mechanism for detecting it) that has not been discovered yet. One must be careful, however, to not just answer every unknown with "it must be quantum mechanics", as that seems to happening a lot lately (but hey, it may be true). ;)

Oh, I forgot to ask: Is your name from the Watchmen?

As to the first reply - The material I read didn't go into any great detail, not much more than I did there. So, it is possible that my source, who was himself citing another person's work, could have had it wrong, or taken it completely out of context. I'm about to read Michio Kaku's new book "Physics of the Impossible" soon, and I should have a better understanding by the end since he covers this sort of thing in this book.

As to the second post - No, my name is taken from the original God. I've only read the one Watchmen graphic novel, so I have no idea which character you're referring to unfortunately.

I can tell you that the name seems to fit my personality though, as many people on another Forum I am a member of can attest. I have been wondering why that is though. It would seem that choosing the name caused me to become like my namesake to some degree.

Again! I had another premonition! This one had something to do with my pet wolf-hound and me at the park. You see, I take my Makejoy on a walk everyday. I think the premonition meant I should go somewhere different next time. Any suggestions, my fellow psychs?

It's always good to do different things, and to do them differently. I tend to alter my route home every day, just to beat the boredom.

Hi,

I noticed nobody has posted a blog in quite some time, but...well, I was watching the movie, The Minority Report, heard the term "precog", I went onto Wikipedia and eventually found myself taking the Zener card test(Anima project). I don't know if I am remotely close to having any kind of paranormal abilities, but I wanted to share my experiences with someone, anyone who won't think Im losing it. It all started with the book/movie, "The Secret", I understand the theory of it all is the law of attraction, your thoughts emit a wavelength and according the theory the universe grants you what you think of most often. Well, to make a long story short, I have been practicing controlling my thoughts and desires and since, I have been dreaming more vividly, I catch myself dreaming and realize I am dreaming, I then can control my every move, the scenery, who is with me, I can fly, create flames, morph, anything I desire to do. Its fun, exciting, and sometimes I wish I could stay there, because I can manifest ANY scenario I choose. Well, a few months back I read a blog about "What is above, is also below" The ying yang theory or something related to it, and I kept wanting to use my dreams to predict the lottery here in texas. A week after reading the Above/below theory I had a dream, I noticed I was dreaming, and I made my "dream-self" lay down and meditate, I pictured myself laying down as if looking up at a mirror...instantly, and I mean instantly, a tone, a ding, some jingle rang in my ears and a surge of energy ran through my body as a ring hovering from my head to my feet, I woke up at that moment and I my body tingled for 10 seconds or so. Well, here is the paranormal ability part...I dream lottery numbers because i repeat "lotto numbers" in my head over and over until I fall asleep, when I am asleep and notice I am dreaming I ask what are the winning lotto numbers and I get a glimpse of them. No, I am not a lottery winner(yet), but the numbers I play are appearing, the trick though is, the numbers are appearing weeks down the road, and I have successfully picked the winning numbers 4 times, but played them on the wrong day. I know what you must be thinking if your reading this, why don't I ask to see a set of numbers, write them down, and play them every week, right? Well, I haven't been able to control my dreams for the past month. As strangely as the ability came, it also disappeared, and now Im online every night looking for literature on the subject to see if I can do anything to bring back the ability, any exercises, foods I can eat, meditation programs, etc. So...yea, thank you for reading if anyone ever reads this.

Hello Rojas, welcome to Anima Project. If you happen to have any luck with the lottery numbers, let me know. My wife is the half of the pair here that's better at this, and I'm sure she would appreciate any tips or help - as would I.

To RRojas
I've been bouncing around these forums and although you probably won't see my reply I thought you might appreciate an opinion/some input from someone who can relate. Just like you, I often have dreams that I can control. I've researched lucid dreaming thoroughly and practice techniques that help this dreaming process for about 2 years now. They're referred to as lucid dreams. Our specific type of dream is referred to as a dream-initiated lucid dream (DILD) which starts as a normal dream, but the dreamer eventually concludes it is a dream.
Dreaming like us requires the section of the brain where working memory occurs which is normally deactivated during REM sleep, to become active. The key to starting this kind of dreaming is the dreamer's recognition that he's dreaming. After the necessary sections in the brain are activated and the recognition of dreaming occurs, the key to staying in the dream is balance. In order to stay in the dream's like the one's you've had, which you easily intensified and manipulated, the dreamer must be cautious to let the dream delusions continue but be conscious enough to recognize them.
In your case, there are a couple techniques you can try that might help you achieve and prolong a lucid dream. I've found the technique in which you simply begin repeating "I will remember my dream" till you fall asleep is very helpful. Although it's not always effective every time, I found that using this technique increased the frequency of my lucid dreams over a short time period, like 2 week. Also, keeping a dream journal has proved to be extremely helpful technique even though (for me) it's very time consuming. If you happen to realize you're experiencing a lucid dream there's techniques that prove to help prolong the dream. The first technique involves spinning your dream body. He proposed that when spinning, the dreamer is engaging parts of the brain that may also be involved in REM activity, helping to prolong REM sleep. The second technique is rubbing your hands or feet. This technique is intended to engage the your brain in producing the sensation of rubbing hands, preventing the dreamer to feel the sensation of lying in bed.
The last thing I wanted to address is your overall goal, it sounds, in most of your lucid dreams is to attain knowledge of winning lottery numbers. In my opinion, I almost guarantee that your persistent effort to obtain the knowledge of these numbers has directly affected your ability to have lucid dreams. I know there might not be concrete evidence of this cliche, but you're not suppose to be able to master obtaining such life-altering knowledge regularly, especially for such selfish reasons. A person with the power to consistently dream up accurate predictions that result solely in such a large personal gain for just the dreamer has never been demonstrated. I've dreamed my fair share of premonitions and reviewed many studies on those who had an undoubted ability of obtaining knowledge through using the mind, that they otherwise shouldn't be able to just "know". In the most credible cases demonstrating a persons abilities, including those who use hypnosis, it becomes evident that the obtainment/prediction of information that can only be used selfishly for personal gain never turns out as beneficial as predicted or it never happens at all. For example: People have been studied who possess a mysterious ability to tell strangers details of a disease they have that'd gone undetected and will prove harmful if the stranger remained unaware. Even people who've demonstrated these abilities consistently for the greater good of someones well-being, have exhibited the inability to obtain information on what decisions would optimize someones financial gain. That might be why even when you got the numbers before, they were a week ahead and never won you anything. Personally, I'd say that if you shift the focus of your dreams to something else and practice some proven techniques, you'll eventually regain your ability to have lucid dreams.
